We have a vacancy within our medical reception team. We are looking for a candidate who has some experience with administration or reception duties, preferably in a healthcare setting, although we will consider applicants from other backgrounds.

The job entails greeting patients at reception in person and over the phone, supporting GPs in care navigation, booking and cancelling appointments, and a range of other administrative duties.

Main duties of the job:

  • We are looking for somebody with a friendly and approachable personality whilst ensuring professionalism at all times.
  • We want our practice to be a welcoming place for patients, and our reception team are key in providing our front of house services.
  • Previous GP practice experience is not essential as training will be given; however, we are looking for a can-do approach and somebody who will fit into a friendly and likeable team.
  • Patient care is at the heart of what we do, and we want to provide the best possible service for them.
  • Being a 'people' person and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment is essential.
  • Politeness, care, and compassion are essential attributes to be successful within the role.

About us:

The practice has a main surgery in the centre of Dunmow and a branch surgery in nearby Felsted. Our core opening hours are 8am to 6.30pm Monday to Fridays. Additionally, the practice is open for extended access appointments on some evenings and some Saturdays.

We are a friendly practice that has a values-based approach to recruitment. Our teams include a range of GPs, nurses, allied healthcare professionals, and a full complement of administrative and reception staff. We have regular social events throughout the year and several other employee benefits.

In addition to your salary and other benefits, you will be entitled to join the NHS Pension Scheme. We also offer a minimum of 5 weeks annual leave plus bank holidays. This is pro-rata'd for part-time staff.

Job responsibilities:

  • Medical Receptionist duties include the ability to learn our clinical system, answering telephones, booking appointments via the online rota, being IT literate, treating people with dignity and respect.
  • Successful candidates will also be provided with further training on clinical correspondence (workflow), and there will be an expectation that some of this work forms part of the role.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications: A good level of English, written and spoken.
  • Experience: Experience or working with the public (patient or public facing).
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced environment and keep calm in often challenging circumstances.
  • Experience within a GP practice or other healthcare setting is preferable.
