The BIM Engineer is a vital member of the Digital Project Delivery (DPD) team, responsible for supporting project teams in implementing BIM standards and digital strategies across multiple disciplines. This role involves providing technical support throughout all project phases; from pre-contract to delivery and handover.

Overview

John Sisk & Son are delighted to be Recruiting a BIM Engineer to be based in our Warrington office. The BIM Engineer is a vital member of the Digital Project Delivery (DPD) team, responsible for supporting project teams in implementing BIM standards and digital strategies across multiple disciplines. This role involves providing technical support throughout all project phases; from pre-contract to delivery and handover.

Responsibilities

Pre Contract Stage

  • Reviewing and processing 2D & 3D models for engineering checks, federation and clash detection.
  • Supporting with visualising site inspections and walkthroughs i.e. using 360° cameras and/or Drones.
  • Producing temporary works 3D models for technical reviews.
  • Developing and coordinate visualisations and interactive models.
  • Managing our location-based BIM viewer for our infrastructure projects.
  • Supporting the BIM Lead with the review of EIR, development of BIM Execution Plan (BEP) and associated documents (e.g. MIDP, Supply Chain assessments, etc.).

Project delivery stage

  • Acting as BIM point of contact onsite carrying out walk-throughs and demonstrations to key stakeholders.
  • Assisting and supporting the project team to understand their contractual obligations to manage a BIM process.
  • Supporting the production and delivery of project BEP, MIDP and digital implementation strategy.
  • Reviewing and validating project Information Model (PIM) developed by design teams and sub-contractors.
  • Assisting the coordination of 3D Models in engineering and team meetings.
  • Carrying out clash detection, issue reports and liaise with teams.
  • Exploring the market and identifying Digital construction cutting edge and innovative technologies.
  • Support logistics team with the use of 3D models for optimising the construction logistics and traffic management.
  • Working with site management team to promote and integrate the use Digital field tools, 3D models and photogrammetry.
  • Supporting project team with innovative technologies such as 360Âş imagery, drones, AR etc
  • Ensuring sub-contractors are fully aware of their roles and responsibilities within the DPD team.
  • Managing and validate sub-contractors information deliverables in accordance to BEP and associated documents.
  • Supporting BIM Lead with DPD audits and implementation of new technologies.
  • Providing upskilling and hands-on training sessions for project teams.
  • Reporting success and measuring the benefits of DPD across the projects.

Experience

Digital tools and systems

  • Familiarity with Civil 3D, OpenRoads, Infraworks or MicroStation for 2D/3D data creation and manipulation.
  • Knowledge of photogrammetry such as 360Âş imagery, drone technology, and augmented reality (AR).
  • Knowledge of Civil 3D, OpenRoads or ArcGIS for geospatial data creation and manipulation.
  • Essential Knowledge of working in a CDE such as Dalux, Viewpoint, ProjectWise etc.
  • Desirable knowledge in Autodesk Navisworks, clash detection and validation.
  • Desirable knowledge for analysing geospatial data (GIS).
  • Desirable knowledge of visual programming such as Dynamo or Generative Components.
  • Core understanding of Microsoft Office.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Effective supervisory and organisational skills.
  • Be able to work on a range of project types.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with pre-contract and operational teams.
  • Excellent reporting skills.
  • Strong communication, presentation skills and being able to build positive working relationships.
  • Self-motivated, ability to manage and prioritise own workload.

Qualifications

  • 2/3+ years’ experience within the Civils, Roads or Rail sector
  • Relevant qualifications in construction, computing or related discipline
