Role Purpose

Deliver high performance standards around all aspects of ground handling, meeting the requirements of our customers and maintaining health and safety and overall good working practices in accordance to Company policies and procedures at all times.

What you will be doing

During De‑icing season this role will carry out the following functions for Menzies Aviation;

  • Be responsible for the care and maintenance of De‑Icing vehicles and glycol station
  • Be responsible for tests and sampling being carried out and recorded according to current procedures and rules
  • Ensure that routines and resources are optimized to meet our level of service to our customers
  • Ensure that our ground service is performed safely, on time and consistently in line with established service levels
  • Through foresight, plan the work to remove problems in the daily operations, to meet resource needs with regard to equipment, work tools and infrastructure.
  • Show flexibility and solve problems as they arise.

  • To understand and use all equipment effectively and correctly, and in line with the training received
  • To fully follow and consistently implement Airline manuals, Airport Regulations and directives from Head of Department/De‑Icing Manager/Duty Managers
  • To follow the company’s Health & Safety Policy
  • To handle all questions, inquiries, or disputes in a professional manner
  • Participate in forums applicable to the work
  • When there is no need to perform de‑icing, be part of the daily operation of ramp work
  • Other work duties

During De‑icing season when weather does not require De‑icing services to be completed, operatives will be required to support the Aircraft Presentation team as directed by management.

  • Interior cleaning of aircrafts, as well as office cleaning, using approved cleaning materials and equipment
  • Removing and disposing of rubbish from the aircraft
  • Cleaning all interior areas of aircraft cabin including vacuuming carpets and cleaning all equipment and surfaces
  • Replenishing seat pockets with airline material as required
  • Ensuring the aircraft is presented as per customer requirements including arranging seat belts, placement of headrests, pillows and blankets
  • Conducting toilet and water services of the aircrafts, in addition to cleaning and replenishing lavatory supplies
  • Completing aircraft disinfections of all internal areas
  • Responsibility for completing essential paperwork for the work carried out
  • Driving airside

During De‑icing off season, this role will carry out the following functions for Menzies‑approved third parties at London Luton Airport in line with your contract of employment;

  • Onload and offload baggage manually or mechanically, in accordance with the relevant training received.
  • Gather, input and process all data and documentation necessary for the fulfilment of the success of the operation by manual, automated or computerised systems, including weather reporting
  • Undertake all relevant baggage sortation duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Carry out area hazard checks
  • Carry out aircraft inspections
  • Carry out equipment inspections
  • Report any faults or irregularities with equipment, facilities or processes to the appropriate management.
  • Unload passenger luggage
  • Deliver passenger luggage to claim area and unload onto conveyor system
  • Deliver any bespoke cargo to appropriate recipient
  • Load/ unload wheelchairs and child strollers and deliver to designated location
  • Provide specialist handling of luggage/ cargo as required/ directed
  • Placement of chocks and cones around the aircraft
  • Drive and/or operate ground support equipment
  • Collect and load live animals and dangerous goods onto aircraft
  • Report all equipment malfunctions to the appropriate supervisor/ manager
  • Comply with relevant legislation, airport authority and carrier security requirements
  • Comply with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), policies and procedures
  • Maintain the highest standards of safety and security at all times
  • Carry out headset duties, including communication with the flight deck in accordance with the relevant training received
  • Operate, position and remove Company aircraft in a safe and efficient manner, in accordance with relevant training received.

  • What we are looking for
  • Full and valid driver’s license, with a clean driving record preferred
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for operating de‑icing trucks, sprayers, or ground equipment
  • Experience or willingness to train in radio communication (MADP) procedures with the airport tower and ground control
  • Ability to pass a background check and provide 5 years working history
  • Pass a drug & alcohol screening and driving medical assessment
  • Able to pass all training assessments, competency evaluations, and practical/hands‑on checks to be certified for de‑icing duties
  • Strong situational awareness of surroundings, including aircraft, moving vehicles, ground personnel, and equipment
  • Physical ability to work in cold environments and climb ladders/platforms
  • Willingness to work flexible/rotating shifts, including nights and weekends
  • Team‑oriented with ability to follow strict safety protocols and local operating procedures
  • Comfortable working from elevated heights
  • Ability to work calmly and follow protocol under time constraints
