We are looking to strengthen our operational team with the appointment of an experienced Surfacing Supervisor.

Overview

As a Surfacing Supervisor, you will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision and coordination of asphalt and road surfacing operations across a variety of projects.

This is a hands‑on role requiring strong leadership skills, excellent industry knowledge, and the ability to manage site teams, plant, materials, and programme requirements while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.

Working closely with the Surfacing Director, contracts managers, clients, and operational teams, you will ensure surfacing works are delivered safely, on time, and to specification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily surfacing operations across multiple sites.
  • Lead and motivate surfacing gangs, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.
  • Plan and organise labour, plant, materials, and subcontractors to meet programme requirements.
  • Conduct site briefings, toolbox talks, and daily safety checks.
  • Ensure all works comply with company procedures, client specifications, and industry standards.
  • Monitor productivity, quality, and programme performance, taking corrective action where necessary.
  • Liaise with clients, site managers, local authorities, and other stakeholders to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Carry out site inspections and audits, identifying and resolving operational issues promptly.
  • Ensure all plant and equipment are operated safely and maintained in accordance with company procedures.
  • Complete daily records, site reports, and relevant documentation accurately and on time.
  • Promote a positive health, safety, and environmental culture across all operations.
  • Support the training and development of operatives and new team members.
  • Key Skills & Experience Essentials
  • Proven experience supervising asphalt, road surfacing, or civil engineering operations.
  • Strong knowledge of surfacing techniques, materials, and associated plant and equipment.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate site teams effectively.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing operational requirements.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • SSSTS or SMSTS qualification.
  • CSCS Card.
  • First Aid at Work certification.
  • Experience working on local authority, highways, infrastructure, or commercial surfacing projects.
  • CPCS or NPORS qualifications relating to surfacing plant.
  • Working Hours

Working hours will vary depending on operational requirements and project schedules.

The role will involve a combination of day shifts, night shifts, and occasional weekend working.

Flexibility is essential, as surfacing operations are often carried out outside standard working hours to meet client and project demands.
