As a Supermarket Assistant, you'll work with the wider shop team to provide the distinct customer service we're known for and work together on a variety of shop-keeping related tasks. You'll also have the added responsibility of overseeing the e-commerce operation across the branch.

In addition to your contractual pay, any time worked between 22:00 - 06:00 will attract Night Premium at a rate of £3.75 per hour. This will also apply to existing Partners who have enrolled onto Enhanced Hours Premium arrangements.

Due to working time regulations, applicants must be 18 years or over to apply.

Key Responsibilities

This is a varied role, and when overseeing the e-Commerce operation, you'll be responsible for:

  • Ensuring the picking operation is efficient.
  • Identifying areas for improvement and implementing them with support of the management team.
  • Coaching and training the team on all e-Commerce tasks. This includes assessing the team's driving standards, ensuring they are at the highest standard while representing the Waitrose Brand.
  • Supporting in the interviewing process of new drivers, assessing their driving ability.
  • Being an ambassador for great customer service and acting as a role model for your team to do the same.

When supporting the rest of the shop operation, you'll help with:

  • Stock replenishment - ensuring our shelves remain as full as possible and products are in the right place at the right time for our customers.
  • Fulfilling online customer orders ready for our drivers to deliver their shopping direct to their doors.
  • Reducing wastage by following product due diligence and markdowns to those reaching their sell by dates.
  • Working with the wider shop team to support when needed including; checkout support, managing Click & Collect orders, fulfilling on-demand customer orders and more.
  • Maintain a safe and tidy working environment with general shopkeeping tasks.
Essential skills/experience you'll need
  • Full valid B-Category UK manual driving licence with no endorsements.
  • Great customer service skills.
  • Comfortable working to lead, train and coach driving team members.
  • Time management and record keeping skills.
  • Comfortable working independently with the ability to be self motivated and adaptable.
  • No involvement in any blameworthy collisions within the past two years.
Desirable skills/experience you may have
  • Previous experience in a driving role and a knowledge of chilled vehicles would be welcomed.
