About the Role

As a VM Stylist you will be responsible for ensuring that all regional John Lewis stores’ fashion, home, beauty and tech styling looks strong and exciting to customers at all times. You will inspire customers, focusing on both trend influencers and typical customers, and maintain brand integrity while supporting key business goals.

Contractual pay includes a night premium of £4.75 per hour for hours worked between 22:00–06:00. Expected salary up to £45,000 depending on experience. This is a 12‑month fixed‑term secondment. The role is hybrid, requiring flexible working including some weekend and late‑night duties. Travel to branches will be reimbursed per policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement mannequin & lifestyle styling training sessions across branches.
  • Conduct regular branch visits and styling refreshes in stores.
  • Provide styling/trend interpretation to the team, support new window scheme launches, and work closely with Design Managers and Window Stylists.
  • Support flagship stores with new window installations, lifestyle, and mannequin advice.
  • Attend product meetings with Buying/Design teams to gain insight on trends and brand expectations.
  • Collaborate with Stylists and VM Managers to execute cohesive outfit building and storytelling.
  • Explore integration of Home, Beauty, tech, and small‑ticket products within the store environment.
  • Coordinate with product teams for creative ideation and design approvals.
  • Develop monthly style notes and seasonal updates.
  • Support creative floor walks to monitor execution of mannequin styling, lifestyle installations, seasonal launches, product showcases, and overall visual representation.
  • Allocate stock ahead of product installations to highlight newness across categories.
  • Generate creative solutions post‑store visits.
  • Assist with key brand events such as press shows and marketing events.
  • Apply knowledge from competitor shops, social media, and fashion weeks to key styling moments.
  • Create product placement within windows and internal sites.
  • Ensure continuous improvement and change management across visual merchandising.

Qualifications

  • Past styling experience with strong commercial awareness.
  • Excellent understanding of customer requirements and ability to work independently.
  • Strong relationship‑building skills with key stakeholders.
  • Positive attitude under pressure and focus on goals.
  • Outstanding styling, communication, influencing and interpersonal skills.
  • An innovative approach to support business growth and create styling guidelines.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience using AutoCAD, InDesign, SketchUp, Photoshop or similar design tools.
  • Experience in training and coaching stylists.
