About the Role

We are modernising our infrastructure, moving to Google Cloud and establishing a number of key Platforms that will form the foundation for the future of the John Lewis Partnership. The Technical Product Manager will help shape how the assignment works within the partnership, working within a small existing community and owning and delivering product strategy and roadmap for a Platform, Developer Experience or Technical Product, delivering end value to internal teams.

Salary: £62,900 – £95,000 per annum (dependent on experience). Permanent contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop working relationships with key stakeholders to understand commercial, technical and operational landscapes.
  • Own and deliver the product strategy and roadmap for a Platform, Developer Experience or Technical Product, setting clear value outcomes and operating KPIs and SLAs related to cost, speed, ease and quality.
  • Prioritise build and run capabilities, balancing new feature demand, operational excellence and technical debt.
  • Work with Architecture & Engineering teams to ensure outcomes align with business and technical strategy.
  • Develop and maintain industry‑leading knowledge on Cloud and technology Platforms required to serve modern omni‑channel retailing.
  • Gather data from user research, feedback and observability to help prioritise backlog.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Deep knowledge and ability to define product vision, roadmaps and backlogs that prioritise user needs and business goals.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise language for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Experience with at least one major Cloud Platform (AWS, GCP or Azure) and understanding of IAAS/PAAS capabilities.
  • Experience in Continuous Delivery practices and selecting, designing, building, deploying and operating Cloud Compute services across Engineering teams.
  • Knowledge of architectural styles deployed on Cloud‑Native Platforms (e.g. MACH, Event‑Driven) and integration patterns.
  • Experience with practices such as Three Amigos, Pairing, Theory of Constraints, retrospectives and continuous improvement.
  • Engineering techniques for resilient, production‑ready software, including instrumentation and monitoring.
  • Awareness of typical security threats to a cloud platform and experience designing mitigating solutions.
  • Data‑driven decision making using metrics to measure product performance and guide continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication, presentation and workshop facilitation skills; confident running workshops with small groups.
  • Fostering collaboration, building strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Managing relationships with third parties and vendors associated with platforms and dev‑ex.
  • Understanding of operational excellence and continuous delivery metrics and measures.

Desirable Skills

  • Hands‑on experience with a modern programming language typically used in Platform Development (such as Python or Go).
  • Hands‑on experience writing infrastructure‑as‑code in a maintainable way (e.g. Terraform).
