About the Role

As a Partner on our service counters, you'll demonstrate your knowledge and passion for food while promoting ethically sourced products. You'll bring the Waitrose ethos—passionate Partners serving food lovers—to life, build lasting relationships with customers, and contribute to a positive image of the brand. Your role will help maximise sales and profit. Night premium pay of £3.75 per hour applies to any time worked between 22:00 and 06:00, and also applies to existing Partners enrolled in Enhanced Hours Premium arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for your own food counter ensuring the highest presentation and hygiene standards at all times.
  • Stay on top of stock levels, ensuring the products customers love are available when needed.
  • Take great care while working with open food and follow all due diligence and health & safety protocols.
  • Help reduce food wastage.
  • Maintain knowledge of new products and have a good understanding of Waitrose's food values (e.g., animal welfare).
  • Support the wider shop team when required with general shopkeeping tasks.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Communication skills to work effectively as part of a team and with customers.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Experience of working in a customer‑facing role.
  • Experience of working in a catering / hospitality environment.
  • Up‑to‑date knowledge and strong interest in food and drink trends.
  • Flexible approach to support the whole branch.

Contract Details

  • Closing Date: June 10, 2026
  • Pay: £13.00 (£13.25 After 90 days)
  • Contract Type: Permanent
  • Hours of Work: Part‑time, 19.5 hours per week (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 05:00‑12:00)
  • Job Level: Partnership Level 10
  • Location: Alton (Waitrose & Partners), Station Road, Alton, Hampshire, GU34 2GD.
