About the Role
As a Supermarket Assistant (Senior Lead Driver Assessor) you will work with the wider shop team to provide the distinct customer service we are known for and collaborate on a variety of shop‑keeping related tasks. You will also oversee the e‑commerce operation across the branch, including picking, order fulfilment and driver assessment. Any time worked between 22:00 and 06:00 will attract Night Premium at a rate of £3.75 per hour. Applicants must be 18 years or over.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the picking operation is efficient.
- Identify areas for improvement and implement them with support of the management team.
- Coaching and training the team on all e‑commerce tasks, including assessing driving standards and ensuring the highest standards while representing the Waitrose brand.
- Support the interviewing process of new drivers and assess their driving ability.
- Act as an ambassador for great customer service and a role model for the team.
- Assist with stock replenishment, keeping shelves full and products in the right place at the right time.
- Fulfil online customer orders for delivery by drivers.
- Reduce wastage by following product due diligence and markdowns for items nearing sell‑by dates.
- Provide checkout support, manage Click & Collect orders, and fulfil on‑demand orders as needed.
- Maintain a safe and tidy working environment with general shop‑keeping tasks.
Essential skills/experience you’ll need
- Full valid B‑Category UK manual driving licence with no endorsements.
- Great customer service skills.
- Ability to lead, train and coach driving team members.
- Time management and record‑keeping skills.
- Self‑motivation, independence and adaptability.
- No involvement in any blameworthy collisions within the past two years.
Desirable skills/experience you may have
- Previous experience in a driving role.
- Knowledge of chilled vehicles.

- Hours of work: varied, 37.5 hours per week across seven days, including early starts, late finishes, evenings and weekends.
