We are looking for a part‑time chef to join our site at Origin Park (Customer Delivery Hub, Distribution Site).
Responsibilities
- Complete online Food Safety Level 2 training within 3 months, followed immediately by Food Safety Level 3 training.
- Hands‑on duties in all areas: cleaning, stock control, putting deliveries away, counter service, shift close‑down.
- Support ordering activities.
- Lead the kitchen when the Sous Chef is not on site.
- Apply John Lewis food safety policies and procedures, including all applicable legislation.
- Oversee opening, closing and daily operations.
- Prepare, serve and present food to a high standard.
Qualifications
- Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate – Level 2.
- Professional Cookery NVQ Level 2, or City & Guilds 706 1 & 2, or equivalent.
- Operational experience in a professional kitchen environment.
Desirable Skills
- Working towards Advanced Food Hygiene Certificate – Level 3.
- Culinary skills or equivalent NVQ Level 2 and 3.
- Professional Cookery NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds 706 1 & 2, or equivalent.
What You Will Do
- Full site and department induction training from day 1.
- Experience in industrial catering advantageous.
- Knife skills.
- Cover all aspects of cooking.
- Create menus using fresh ingredients.
- Work in a fast, hot environment.
- Provide daily customer service.
- Understand the food safety management system – food safety policy & COSHH chemical handling.
- Use food monitoring systems to take food and delivery temperatures.
- Support hospitality catering assistants and apprentices.
Working Pattern
37.5 hours per week – Monday to Friday – 07:30 – 16:00 with two 30‑minute breaks.
Salary
Annual salary £26,200 – £30,000, depending on skills and experience. Overtime is featured but not guaranteed.
Contract Type
This is a permanent role. Flexible working arrangements, such as compressed hours or job sharing, may be discussed.
