About the Role
As a Driver Trainer with an LGV C+E licence, you will ensure all drivers meet the highest standard and represent the John Lewis Partnership brand professionally while operating articulated lorries. The role involves training, assessing, and testing Partners (including apprentices) and agency drivers to pass our HGV programme and to obtain their own licence. You will maintain ongoing training and keep partner training records for all transport partners. Aside from your contractual pay, any time worked between 18:00 and 22:00 attracts an evening premium of £3.75 per hour, and any time worked between 22:00 and 06:00 attracts a night premium of £4.75 per hour.
Working Pattern
The role is onsite at the Bracknell Transportation Office. It involves night shifts and working five out of seven days a week, with potential coverage of weekends. Shift premium is to be discussed at interview. The contract type is permanent.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess all transport drivers ensuring they meet required driving and partnership standards.
- Conduct DCPC training.
- Ensure health and safety procedures are adhered to, including reporting injuries, accidents, and any health and safety issues.
- Attend regular meetings and communicate operational issues to the management team.
- Maintain partner training records and provide refresher training when necessary or as requested by a transport first line manager.
- Maintain an up-to-date understanding of the latest driving regulations, techniques, and vehicle technology, and pass that knowledge onto trainees.
- Operate operational monitoring of tachographs, accidents, vehicle facilities, and Microlise.
Essential Skills & Experience
- LGV C+E licence entitlement.
- Mandatory CPC‑approved instructor status.
- Mandatory drivers CPC.
- Experience of LGV1 training.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience in assessing drivers.
- Drivers CPC qualification and qualification to deliver the programme.
- DSA instructor qualification.
Interview Process
The interview will be conducted in‑person at our Bracknell office and includes a practical driving assessment.
