As a Senior Retail Product Designer you’ll be part of a cross‑functional Strategy and design team, leading the design that services both our strategy and product teams.
You will be responsible for the entire Product Design lifecycle from initial discovery & vision setting, through to the execution of final UI designs.
In addition to your contractual pay, any time worked between 22:00‑06:00 will attract Night Premium at a rate of £5.25 per hour.
Salary: £52,000 – £80,000. Contract type: Permanent. Working pattern: Hybrid, 2‑3 days a week in‑person; flexible based on role and business needs. Location: Bracknell, Berkshire.
Key responsibilities
- Lead design for retail’s product areas and drive the future vision, ensuring a cohesive Waitrose experience.
- Deliver incremental steps that advance team direction.
- Work in a cross‑functional team, creating all design artefacts from discovery through final UI design.
- Understand customers deeply through research, data analysis, and lightweight studies.
- Collaborate regularly with strong communication, documentation, and facilitation skills.
- Work closely with Product Owners, Engineers, Data Scientists, and User Researchers to ship great designs.
- Execute polished, intuitive, and accessible user experiences, balancing ideal experience with technical constraints and business risk.
Essential skills & experience
- Experience in a Product Team within an agile environment.
- Experience across the Product Design lifecycle from discovery/research to final UI design, with a portfolio to showcase this work.
- Agile Scrum experience: working in sprints with backlogs and feature sets.
- Ability to think at a high level about product strategy and clearly articulate design decisions.
- Understanding of technical implications of design decisions.
- Passion for problem solving and UX Design.
- Excellent communication skills and a people‑focused design mentality.
Desirable skills & experience
- Retail e‑commerce experience within a large organisation.
- Experience with modern design tools like Figma.
- Front‑end programming and ability to code simple prototypes.
- Experience designing and maintaining cross‑platform design systems.
- Experience conducting research.
