Overview
As a Driver Trainee Technician, you will be supported through our 90-day Customer Delivery Driver trainee programme to become a fully qualified John Lewis Customer Delivery Technician with a C1 driving licence.
Once you\’re fully trained, you\’ll deliver and install products at customers\’ homes as part of a 2-person delivery crew (e.g., furniture, large electrical appliances, sound systems, TVs). If you join us from 5 October 2025, any time worked between 18:00 and 22:00 will attract an Evening Premium of £2.50 per hour, and any time worked between 22:00 and 06:00 will attract a Night Premium of £3.50 per hour. This also applies to existing Partners enrolled onto Enhanced Hours Premium arrangements.

Key responsibilities
- Be an ambassador for the John Lewis brand with a focus on excellent customer service.
- Assist in loading the vehicle with daily deliveries and collaborate with the warehouse team.
- Show respect and courtesy for the customer\’s home and handle unexpected situations to find the best solution for customers.
- Install various products (including wall-mount TVs, integrated appliances, and hard-wired appliance installations) efficiently and demonstrate how they work after installation.
- Keep up to date with new products and technologies to perform at your best.
- Maintain a safe working environment.
Upon completion of both C1 acquisition and Technician training by meeting all relevant criteria of the programme, salary increases to up to £34,353 (Annual). Note that completion timing depends on individual input and training needs; therefore, pay increases cannot be guaranteed.
Please note this role involves heavy lifting and delivering large items such as sofas, white goods, furniture, beds, and mattresses.
Essential skills/experience
- UK B-Category manual driving licence with no more than 6 points.
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
- Excellent verbal communication skills, both over the phone and face-to-face.
- Good understanding of technology and an interest in installation.
Desirable skills/experience
- Prior experience in installation and customer delivery services.
