As our Driver Technician Trainee 7.5t, you will be supported through our 3‑month trainee programme to become a fully qualified John Lewis Customer Delivery Technician with a C1 driving licence. Once you are fully trained, you'll have the unique opportunity of bringing our distinctive John Lewis service right to our customers' door and installing the products they love into their homes (such as furniture, large electrical appliances, sound systems and TV sets) as part of a 2‑person delivery crew. Due to the nature of these roles, we require all applicants to be 18 or over by their start date.

Key Responsibilities

  • Being an ambassador for the John Lewis brand, with great customer service as your number one priority.
  • Perform daily checks and assist in loading your vehicle with the daily deliveries while collaborating with the warehouse team.
  • Show great respect and courtesy for the customer's home and handle unexpected situations to find the best possible solution for your customers.
  • Install various products (including wall‑mount TVs, integrated appliances, and hard‑wired appliance installations) efficiently and quickly, demonstrating how they work once installed.
  • Keep up to date with new products and technologies to perform your role at your best.
  • Adhere to all legal driving regulations, including the Working Time Directive and EU regulations, to maintain a safe working environment.
  • The completion of the 90‑day programme will be based on the individual’s input into the programme and may vary based on training needs.
  • Heavy lifting will be required; you will spend a lot of time delivering large items such as sofas, white goods, sports equipment, furniture, beds, and mattresses.

Essential Skills / Experience You'll Need

  • UK B‑Category manual driving licence with no more than 6 points.
  • Previous experience in a customer‑facing role.
  • Great verbal communication skills, both over the phone and in person.
  • Good understanding of technology and an interest in installation.

Desirable Skills / Experience You May Have

  • Prior experience in installation and customer delivery services.
  • Previous role model or team leader experience.
