About the Role
As our Driver Technician Trainee 7.5t, you will be supported through a 3‑month trainee programme to become a fully qualified John Lewis Customer Delivery Technician with a C1 driving licence. Once you’re fully trained, you’ll have the opportunity to bring our distinctive John Lewis service to customers’ homes and install products they love, as part of a two‑person delivery crew. Applicants must be 18 or over by their start date.
Key Responsibilities
- Being an ambassador for the John Lewis brand with great customer service is your number one priority.
- Perform daily checks and assist in loading your vehicle with the daily deliveries while collaborating with the warehouse team.
- Show great respect and courtesy for the customer’s home, and handle unexpected situations to find the best possible solution.
- Install various products (including wall‑mount TVs, integrated appliances, and hard‑wired appliance installations).
- Demonstrate how they work once installed.
- Keep up to date with new products and technologies to perform your role at your best.
- Adhere to all legal driving regulations, including the Working Time Directive and EU regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
- Note that the completion of the 90‑day programme will be based on the individual’s input into the programme and may vary based on training needs.
- Understand that the role involves heavy lifting – you will deliver large items such as sofas, white goods, sports equipment, furniture, beds, and mattresses.
Essential Skills and Experience
- UK B‑Category manual driving licence with no more than 6 points.
- Previous experience in a customer‑facing role.
- Great verbal communication skills both over the phone and in person.
- Good understanding of technology and an interest in installation.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Prior experience in installation and customer delivery services.
- Previous role model or team leader experience.
