The Estimator will play a critical role in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for bespoke industrial chain assemblies and related components. You will evaluate technical drawings, specifications, and tender documentation to produce quotations that support profitable business growth while maintaining compliance with customer and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Review engineering drawings, technical specifications, and customer enquiries to determine material, labour, and production requirements.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and formal quotations in line with company pricing strategy and margin targets.
- Liaise with the engineering, production, and procurement teams to validate costings and lead times.
- Identify potential cost savings and value-engineering opportunities during the estimating process.
- Maintain and update estimating databases, material price lists, and supplier information.
- Support the sales team in tender submissions and contract negotiations.
- Monitor post-quotation outcomes to refine future pricing accuracy.
- Ensure all estimates comply with relevant standards, quality procedures, and health & safety requirements.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience as an Estimator within a manufacturing or engineering environment (preferably in mechanical or heavy industry).
- Ability to interpret complex technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Competent in Microsoft Office and estimating software (e.g. ERP/MRP systems).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple quotations and meet strict deadlines.
- Experience in the design or manufacture of industrial chains, conveyors, or mechanical components.
- HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
