The predicted salary is between 26000 - 26000 £ per year.

Full time 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Normal office hours are between 8.30-17.00. Due to the nature of the role, a high degree of flexibility is required to work weekends and evenings on a rota basis. Circa £26,000 per annum depending on experience, plus car allowance and out of hours allowance. Plus non contractual bonus of up to 10%.

Although based in our office in Cardiff, there will be a requirement to visit other ports as required.

The role: We are looking for a Shipping Agent, based in our offices in Cardiff to assist the agency team in the day-to-day ship’s agency operations at various ports both locally and at other locations in the UK. This is an exciting and varied role, with no two days the same. One minute you can be supporting with crew changes and next booking pilots and tugs to ensure the safe berthing of the ship. Normal office hours are between 8.30-17.00; however, due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate will be required to work as part of a team of Shipping Agents to provide out of hours cover on a rota basis which includes evening and weekend working.

The role will include:

  • Customs documentation (report / clearing the vessel)
  • Assist vessel Master with day/day requirements doctors, dentists, provisions etc.
  • Contact with port authority for berthing schedule
  • Stevedores’ daily updates – discharge/loading prospects
  • Planning time to ensure the highest level of service to vessels/customers

About you: Previous experience of working in a shipping agency/forwarding environment is desirable; however, if you have a keen interest in pursuing a career in Shipping please apply as full training can be provided. A high degree of flexibility with the availability to work weekends and evenings on a rota basis. Ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes pressured environment whilst providing an effective and efficient service to our customers and complying with port health & safety requirements. Experience of using Microsoft packages and a CRM system. Ability to build relationships and confidently communicate both verbally and in writing. Strong attention to detail. Happy to roll your sleeves up and get involved with the ability to work well within a small team. Ability to drive and hold a valid (full) licence is essential as frequent travel between ports and vessels will be required.
