Role Overview

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in the commercial management of Mechanical and Electrical projects from inception through to final account. Working closely with project managers and the wider commercial team, you will help ensure projects are delivered efficiently, profitably, and in line with contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend project handover meetings and input new project data into the accounts system,
  • Assist with the preparation of project budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections,
  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities across projects,
  • Prepare monthly cost and value reports and carry out cost reconciliations,
  • Prepare and submit monthly project valuations to clients,
  • Assist in the selection, procurement, and appointment of subcontractors,
  • Prepare, negotiate, and issue subcontract orders,
  • Measure, value, and agree subcontract accounts,
  • Prepare, submit, and negotiate client variations,
  • Manage the project change control process with both clients and the supply chain,
  • Evaluate monthly work-in-progress and submit progress reports to Finance,
  • Prepare and agree final accounts with clients and subcontractors,
  • Provide commercial and contractual advice to project management teams,
  • Manage multiple projects while producing accurate cost data and cost management reports,
  • Report directly to the Surveying Manager.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a Quantity Surveyor working for a contractor (recommended),
  • Proven experience within the Mechanical and Electrical sector, either as a Mechanical and/or Electrical QS,
  • Strong knowledge and experience of standard contract forms, including JCT, SBCC, and NEC,
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills,
  • Ability to work to deadlines and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels,
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word,
  • Customer-focused, proactive, and responsive,
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing to a team environment.

Qualifications

  • HNC / HND / Degree in Quantity Surveying preferred, or demonstrable equivalent experience,
  • Full UK Driving Licence required.
