Role Overview
The Senior Mechanical Project Manager is responsible for leading and delivering mechanical engineering and construction projects from concept through to completion. The role involves overseeing project planning, resource management, commercial performance, technical delivery, and client relationships, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
This role typically operates across multiple projects or large, complex projects and provides leadership to project teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Delivery
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of mechanical projects,
- Develop and manage project programmes, budgets, and resource plans,
- Ensure projects are delivered in line with contractual and technical requirements,
- Monitor project progress and implement corrective actions where required,
- Manage project risks and opportunities
Technical Leadership
- Provide technical oversight for mechanical design, installation, and commissioning,
- Review and approve technical documentation, drawings, and specifications,
- Support value engineering and technical problem solving,
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards and regulations
Commercial & Contractual Management
- Manage project financial performance including cost control and forecasting,
- Review and manage subcontractor packages and variations,
- Support tender reviews and project handover from pre-construction teams,
- Ensure compliance with contract terms and client requirements
Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental (HSQE)
- Lead safe delivery of projects and promote strong safety culture,
- Ensure compliance with company and statutory HSQE requirements,
- Support incident investigations and implementation of lessons learned,
- Ensure quality assurance and inspection processes are followed
Stakeholder & Team Management
- Lead and mentor project managers, engineers, and site teams,
- Act as primary point of contact for clients and key stakeholders,
- Manage subcontractors and supply chain partners,
- Support workforce planning and performance management
- Leadership and people management,
- Strategic planning and organisation,
- Negotiation and influencing,
- Results-driven with strong attention to detail
Skills & Experience
- Significant experience managing mechanical engineering or MEP projects,
- Strong leadership and team management skills,
- Strong commercial and contractual awareness,
- Excellent client-facing and communication skills,
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability
- Experience managing large-scale or multi-site projects,
- Experience within sectors such as construction, utilities, energy, or industrial,
- Experience working with tier 1 contractors or principal contractors
Qualifications
- Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline,
- SMSTS or equivalent (construction environment)
- Professional membership (e.g., IMechE or similar),
