Job Description - We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our Slough based Research & Development team on a permanent basis (hybrid). You will be joining a team specifically responsible for Dry Gas Seal development projects, you have involvement throughout the entire product development lifecycle from concept to execution of new and innovative Dry Gas Seals. Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, you will form an integral part of the mechanical design business unit, a team of highly creative and inventive engineering experts. You will have the opportunity to perform a variety of mechanical engineering design and development tasks related to Dry Gas Seal products which will play a vital role in enabling the team to meet departmental objectives of the New Product Development team and wider business.

Our team will look for you to display a real passion for everything manufacturing, engineering and design but also for you to demonstrate interest in working collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders and experience of driving engineering related projects. It is important to note, you’ll be joining a team of engineering experts, who are focused on adding real value to every aspect of our engineering and manufacturing operations, you will have lots of opportunity for involvement, exposure to exciting projects and opportunity to forge collaborative relationships across the organisation.

Duties & Responsibilities (not limited to):

  • Development and validation of new gas seal products to meet business needs and departmental objectives.
  • Develop innovative ideas and breakthrough technologies to support future business.
  • Participation in the department’s innovation initiative - the invention of new concepts, ideas, and breakthrough technologies to support future business and generate new IP.
  • Individual responsibility for specific development programs to include the generation of development plans and specifications for standard or special products, design generation and qualification testing.
  • Project manage development programs to plan and budget.
  • Perform and monitor testing of seal designs, whether as part of product development or for customer-specific tests.
  • Support the transition of a product from development into production.
  • Detailed technical presentations to customers to support sales and training initiatives.
  • Create and distribute technical bulletins, articles, or papers dealing with product, application, or system design.
  • Perform mechanical design (CAD) and analyses (FEA).
  • Conduct feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs.
  • Direct support personnel in the preparation of detailed manufacturing documentation.
  • Supports sales, where appropriate in addressing new business opportunities.
  • Participates in new process development, qualification, and optimisation.

The Individual:

  • Accredited mechanical engineering degree (ideally MEng/ MSc or alternatively BEng/ BSc) with a sound understanding of engineering principles or equivalent commercial mechanical experience.
  • Full knowledge of 3D modelling & 2D drawing with CAD software.
  • Knowledge of Drafting and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
  • Creative design capabilities transforming ideas into engineered solutions.
  • Ability to identify new systems and processes to drive quality, efficiency and save costs.
  • Ability to self-manage projects ensuring on time delivery.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a positive attitude towards teamwork.
