Provide direct technical support to the UK Sales and Service business in order to win orders and support UK OEM and End User customers. Undertake product selection and analysis in accordance with JC Global Engineering guidelines using a range of Engineering tools. Support John Crane wet seal, wet seal system and coupling products from order through design, delivery and into service. A Regional Mechanical Engineer II is expected to be able to technically apply existing products to meet the Customer’s needs.
Support to Sales and Aftermarket:
- Across all products, provide application support for engineering proposals, orders, retrofits, aftermarket and service support.
- Support sales personnel with technical guidance, improving customer relationships and winning business.
- Interact with customers directly on technical matters with guidance from Senior Engineers.
- Provide engineering support for troubleshooting, commissioning issues and technical mitigation of potential warranty scenarios, escalating support as necessary and working across the organization with Central Expertise, other experts across Engineering Solutions, Sales and Aftermarket, Quality, and Legal.
- Support OEM and Aftermarket service activity through product strip downs, RCA, technical reports, design and testing.
Responsibilities:
- Undertake technical product selections and provide product selection guidance to UK Sales.
- Analysis of customer specifications to advise technical solutions adapted to their needs.
- Support the progress of order providing technical support, clarifications, and analysis through to delivery.
- Guide application design and undertake 2D/3D design & drawing work when required.
- Undertake hands-on product inspection, RCA and laboratory testing in support of OEM orders and Aftermarket customers when required.
- Engage directly with customers via meetings, site visits and written technical reports as and when required.
- Provide supporting technical justification for decisions through use of analysis, calculation, and John Crane Engineering best practices.
- Adhere to all Smiths business, ethics, health & safety policies at all times.
- Report to his/her manager any situation deemed dangerous in relation to safety and/or the environment.
Qualifications:
- Degree qualified Engineer, BEng, MEng or equivalent professional experience.
- Maybe enhanced by working toward professional membership / chartership – e.g. MIMechE, CEng.
- Working Knowledge of Engineering tools; 2D/3D design and drafting (SolidEdge), FEA and Engineering calculations.
- Broad awareness of Engineering principles, for example mechanics, thermodynamics and tribology.
- Experience working with rotating equipment and/or pressurised fluid systems would be beneficial.
- Passion and drive to develop and progress as an Engineer, as well as building close working relationships with colleagues and customers.
