MOT Tester & Used Car Preparation Technician
We are looking for a qualified MOT Tester and Used Car Preparation Technician to join our busy team in Ipswich.
This role is ideal for an experienced technician who enjoys working on a wide variety of vehicles and takes pride in preparing them to the highest standards for retail sale. You will play a key part in ensuring our used vehicles are safe, compliant, mechanically sound and presented to a standard that reflects the reputation of the John Banks Group.
This is a settled, well-run workshop within a family business that has been trading since 1974. Several members of our team have been with us for more than fifteen years, which tells you more about the job than any advert can.
What you would be doing
- Carrying out Class 4 MOT testing.
- Used vehicle inspections and preparation.
- Servicing and routine maintenance.
- Mechanical repairs identified during vehicle health checks.
- Brake, steering and suspension repairs.
- Timing belts, clutches and general mechanical repairs.
- Conducting vehicle health checks using digital reporting systems.
- Identifying and reporting additional work required.
- Ensuring all vehicles meet retail and safety standards before sale.
- Road testing vehicles where required.
- Maintaining accurate workshop records and MOT documentation.
What you need
- Minimum Level 3 NVQ (or equivalent) in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
- A current MOT Tester licence (Class 4 essential).
- Full UK driving licence.
- Previous experience in a dealership or independent workshop environment.
- Good mechanical knowledge across a range of vehicle makes and models.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work efficiently whilst maintaining high standards.
- A positive attitude and the ability to work as part of a team.
