Are you an Accounts Assistant looking to build on your existing experience within a supportive and established finance team? This role is ideal for someone who has already gained some hands-on experience in an accounts or finance environment and is now looking to develop their skills further, including those studying towards AAT or a finance-related qualification. John Banks Group has been operating across East Anglia for over 50 years and continues to grow. We are looking for a motivated, detail-focused individual who enjoys working accurately, takes pride in their work, and wants to progress within a professional finance function. Based at either Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge or Colchester.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records
  • Support the processing of purchase invoices
  • Assist with bank reconciliations
  • Support the wider team in group credit control
  • Support the handling of customer and supplier queries, escalating when required
  • Maintenance of supplier accounts checks and reconciliations
  • Assist with month-end processes and reporting tasks
  • Work closely with the Accounts Lead and wider finance team to learn core finance processes
  • Follow company financial policies and procedures
  • Assist with general administrative and ad-hoc finance tasks
  • Contribute ideas to improve efficiency as experience grows

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Some prior experience in an accounts or finance role (essential)
  • AAT Level 2-4 or currently studying, or a finance/business-related graduate
  • Good working knowledge of Excel and Microsoft 365
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Clear communication skills with a professional, approachable manner
  • Organised, reliable and keen to learn

Role Details

  • Position: Full-time, permanent
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm (1 hour for lunch Unpaid)
  • Holiday: 22 days per annum plus bank holidays increases with LOS
