We are looking for an additional experienced and commercially focused Automotive Dealership Accountant to join our Cambridge operation at Swann’s Road. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with motor trade accounting experience who understands the fast-paced nature of a franchised dealership and can provide accurate, timely financial information to support operational decision-making.
The Role
Reporting to the Group Finance team and working closely with the site’s management team, you will take responsibility for the financial control and reporting of the Cambridge dealership operation. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Preparing accurate monthly management accounts within agreed deadlines
- Producing and submitting manufacturer composites and financial reports
- Reviewing dealership performance against budgets, forecasts and key performance indicators
- Completing balance sheet reconciliations and maintaining robust financial controls
- Monitoring vehicle debtors, creditors, funding, stock and work in progress
- Reviewing departmental profitability across vehicle sales, aftersales and parts
- Managing accruals, prepayments, journals and intercompany transactions
- Supporting VAT returns and ensuring transactions are correctly recorded
- Reviewing bonus, manufacturer support and warranty income to ensure all amounts are claimed and accounted for
- Working with departmental managers to investigate variances and improve financial performance
- Supporting annual budgets, forecasts and year-end audit requirements
- Ensuring dealership processes comply with Group policies and accounting procedures
- Identifying financial risks, control weaknesses and opportunities for improvement
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have previous accounting experience within a franchised motor dealership or automotive dealer group. You will be organised, commercially aware and comfortable working to strict month-end deadlines. You should have:
- Previous dealership or motor trade accounting experience
- Experience preparing monthly management accounts
- A strong understanding of dealership departments, including vehicle sales, service and parts
- Excellent Excel and financial analysis skills
- High levels of accuracy and attention to detail
- The confidence to challenge figures and work constructively with operational managers
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Experience using Pinewood Pinnacle or a similar automotive dealer management system would be advantageous
- A recognised accounting qualification or part-qualification would be beneficial, although relevant dealership experience will also be considered
