Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and pragmatic Compliance and Safety Manager (UK) to manage compliance and safety, and risk management across the UK and ROI markets. Based in London, and reporting to the Senior Manager for Compliance and Safety, this role is responsible for implementing global compliance frameworks at a local level, ensuring adherence to UK regulatory requirements while supporting operational excellence. As a member of the UK and ROI Compliance & Safety function, you will work closely with UK and ROI operations and other cross‑functional stakeholders to provide tools and guidance that support a strong culture of compliance, proactively manage risk, and enable sustainable business growth. This role operates at a manager level, owning the execution of day‑to‑day operational direction on food safety and health and safety. You will influence decisions within your function, lead and contribute to both functional and non‑functional projects, drive continuous improvement, and ensure alignment with broader business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- UK Compliance & Regulatory Oversight: Ensure programs and tools are compliant with UK and ROI food safety, workplace safety, and regulatory requirements. Contribute to the development of policies and procedures considering regulatory change (e.g., Food Standards Agency, HSE), ensuring timely updates, supported with implementation tools for the business. Act as a key point of contact for compliance and safety matters within the UK and ROI for Field Operations as primary customer. Support with the identification, assessment, and mitigation of operational, regulatory, and reputational risks within the UK and ROI markets. Support the execution of enterprise risk management frameworks at a local level. Provide clear and actionable insights on risk exposure and mitigation to the Senior Compliance and Safety Manager.
- Operational Integration: Partner with UK and ROI operations teams to embed compliance and safety standards into daily activities. Ensure consistent implementation of global standards while adapting to UK and ROI regulatory requirements. Balance operational priorities with robust compliance frameworks.
- Audit, Assurance & Continuous Improvement: Manage the internal audit program and support external inspections across the UK. Identify compliance gaps, provide supportive data and drive corrective actions to resolution with operations team. Continuously improve processes to enhance efficiency, scalability, and compliance outcomes.
- Leadership & Development: Complete continuous self‑development through CPD and membership of IOSH or IIRSM. Complete agreed objectives, contribute to functional performance, and support development of junior team members. Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Training & Culture: Develop and deliver training programmes to build compliance and safety capability across UK and ROI operations. Support a strong culture of safety, compliance, and ethical behaviour. Act as a visible advocate for compliance and safety across the organisation.
- Quality & Due Diligence: Oversee supplier compliance, third‑party due diligence, and product quality standards within the UK. Ensure adherence to sourcing policies and product specifications.
- Reporting & Stakeholder Management: Maintain accurate records of audits, incidents, and compliance activities. Provide regular reporting on compliance performance, risks, and trends. Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders including Operations, Legal, Facilities and Construction and Supply Chain.
Key Qualifications & Experience
- Strong experience in compliance, risk or safety roles within regulated industries (e.g., food, retail, hospitality); minimum of 5 years at manager level.
- In‑depth knowledge of UK regulatory frameworks (e.g., HACCP, food safety legislation, workplace safety, fire safety).
- Experience managing or leading teams, with proven ability to develop and coach others to identify improvements.
- Demonstrated experience in audits, risk assessments, and implementing compliance programmes.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across functions.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making capabilities.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage both operational teams and senior managers.
- Experience in high‑growth or multi‑site operational environments.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Advanced Food Safety qualification or level 4 as a minimum, NEBOSH Cert or Diploma or equivalent).
