Key Responsibilities

• YouTube Revenue & Channel Growth
  • Own YouTube KPIs including views, RPM, retention, watch time, CTR, and subscriber growth.
  • Build best-in-class uploads: titles, thumbnails, packaging, metadata.
  • Analyse performance weekly and pivot content approach quickly.
  • Support monetisation opportunities and sponsorship-ready IP.
• IP Development & Format Creation
  • Develop repeatable, scalable PoliticsJOE formats that drive long‑term viewer loyalty.
  • Pitch and build shows that can anchor the PoliticsJOE universe.
  • Produce concept decks, run pilots, and iterate based on data and audience insights.
  • Ensure every format ladders into core political storytelling and audience values.
• Guest Booking, Research & Interview Prep
  • Conduct extensive research into each guest: background, voting record, policy stance, controversies, public statements.
  • Prepare interview briefs for presenters and contributors including key questions, follow‑ups, context, and policy references.
  • Produce stress‑interview prep for challenging or evasive guests.
  • Be capable of conducting your own interviews when required.
• End‑to‑End Production
  • Produce long‑form YouTube shows from idea to final export.
  • Direct talent, manage contributors, brief crew, and oversee scripting.
  • Collaborate with editors to craft tight, high‑retention narratives.
  • Make politically complex topics accessible and engaging.
• Short‑Form Production (PoliticsJOE Universe)
  • Produce short‑form content across YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram Reels, X.
  • Create reactive explainers, cutdowns, vox pops, and franchise moments.
  • Build short‑form series that act as discovery engines for long‑form IP.
  • Optimise pacing, structure and hooks for platform‑native retention.
  • Review analytics and evolve strategy based on performance trends.
  • Work closely with the Editor‑in‑Chief to align on editorial priorities and tone.
  • Liaise with the junior political correspondent to integrate reporting into formats.
  • Collaborate across PoliticsJOE, JOE and SportsJOE to identify crossover opportunities.
• Content Calendar & Production Scheduling
  • Build and maintain a forward‑looking calendar of shoots, releases, and political moments.
  • Ensure the team is always ahead of major dates, legislative cycles and cultural events.
  • Coordinate with talent, crew, guests and editorial to maintain a consistent output cadence.

About You

• A YouTube‑first storyteller with strong political instincts.
• Confident producing long‑form and fast‑turnaround short‑form content.
• Highly organised and capable of managing multiple simultaneous productions.
• Skilled at research, interview prep and briefing.
• Comfortable directing talent and conducting interviews when needed.
• Fast‑learning, curious, and reactive to news cycles.
• Calm under pressure and capable of delivering in high‑stakes environments.

Bonus Experience

• Experience in political journalism or current affairs production.
• Proficiency in stress‑testing interviews or adversarial questioning.
• Proven track record of growing YouTube or short‑form channels.
• Experience building sponsored/commercial content formats.
• Familiarity with UK and Irish political systems and culture.
