Salary: £47,683-£52,426 (dependent on skills and experience)

What you’ll be doing:

  • Support the FalconWorks Systems Delivery and platform teams in analysing and selecting solutions for future platforms Vehicle Management Systems.
  • Refine platform concept of operations into Vehicle Management System requirements and design.
  • Develop a VMS System Architecture by drawing on a combination of external COTS systems, internally sourced systems and prior experience from across the organisation.
  • Liaise closely with the Vehicle Systems team to support the development of interface and control strategies for the Air Vehicle Sub-systems.
  • Liaise closely with the Commercial/Procurement teams to provide technical oversight during supplier management, contract negotiations and risk reviews.
  • Support the design and operation of system test rigs.
  • Integrate the VMS with onboard Vehicle Systems and the Ground Control System.
  • Support System Safety activities such as Fault Tree Analysis.
  • Qualify the VMS for flight by generation of clearance documentation.
  • Support platform flight trials.

Your skills and experiences:

  • Experience of working at all levels of the systems engineering lifecycle and be able to develop and communicate clear and concise requirements, defining and modelling system functionality and behaviour using Simulink, Cameo or similar, as well as understand the principles and advantages of Requirements Management.
  • An understanding of the physical, functional and performance challenges of developing safety critical Airborne Vehicle Control systems, such as Flight Control Systems and Vehicle sub-system control and closely integrating these with the platform.
  • Familiarity with digital communication interfaces in the digital and analogue domains, such as Ethernet, 1394b, 1553, RS-422/485 etc, as well as some experience of analysing test data to identify problems or to demonstrate requirements compliance.
  • Experience of building safety critical control system architectures, setting these systems to work and fault finding when necessary.
  • A working knowledge of other Vehicle systems, such as Power Generation, Flight Actuation, Fuel Systems, Hydraulic Power systems etc.

The Systems Delivery Team, within the FalconWorks® organisation, strives to shape and deliver the next generation of Mission Systems and Vehicle Management Systems. This will drive technology value into our future products aligned with the Air Sector business strategy. It is critical to bring together experienced Mission Systems, and Vehicle Management Systems Engineers to support the establishment of this new capability. Activities will focus on developing and delivering Vehicle Management Systems to support a growing range of FalconWorks® platforms.
