Join us as a Legal Practice Manager at Thirteen Group!

Role Overview

Thirteen Group is on the lookout for a Legal Practice Manager to help shape the future of our legal and home ownership services.

We're creating a modern, high-performing in-house legal service and we're looking for someone who understands how legal operations work and enjoys making things run smoothly.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in the day-to-day management of our Legal and Home Ownership teams. You'll help us create the systems, processes and controls that keep work flowing, support colleagues to perform at their best and ensure we're delivering a professional, efficient and customer-focused service.

You'll oversee workflow and case progression, support performance and resource management, manage relationships with external legal providers and use data to identify opportunities for improvement.

You'll also help us embed the practice management disciplines that underpin a successful legal service, creating greater visibility, consistency and accountability across the team.

This isn't about changing things for the sake of it. We're looking for someone who can build on what's already working, introduce practical improvements and help create the right foundations for future success.

If you enjoy bringing structure to complexity, solving problems and helping teams deliver great outcomes, we'd love to hear from you.

This is a hybrid role, offering a balance of home and office working. You'll be expected to spend 2-3 days per week working from our fantastic Hudson Quay office in Middlesbrough, with the remainder of your time working from home. As business and team needs can vary, you'll need to be adaptable and may be required to spend additional time in the office when needed.

Thirteen Benefits

  • Salary – £60,326 per annum
  • Annual leave – starting at 28 days and rising to 31 days after three years, a day off for your birthday, plus bank holidays.
  • Pension – up to 17% contributions (flexible contribution rates of up to 7% colleague and up to 10% employer).
  • Simply Health – save money on common health expenses and get access to health and wellbeing support services.
  • T’dar – our Discount and Reward platform giving you huge savings on everyday brands.
  • Opportunities to buy and sell annual leave

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the operational transformation of our Legal and Home Ownership services, working closely with the Head of Legal and Home Ownership to turn strategic priorities into practical improvements, embed modern practice management disciplines and introduce smarter ways of working.
  • Run our legal front door, ensuring work is allocated, prioritised and progressed effectively with clear visibility of demand, capacity and outcomes.
  • Strengthen governance, controls and legal standards. You’ll implement consistent processes and self-service tools templates that support compliance, reduce risk and improve accountability.
  • Lead and develop a team of 4 across legal operations and home ownership. You'll bring together people, processes, systems and insight to help us work more effectively.
  • Improve legal case progression and service performance to remove bottlenecks and delays and develop a more responsive and customer-focused service.
  • Manage and monitor the performance, quality and value for money of external legal providers.
  • Use data, reporting and insight to drive decision-making, providing clear performance information to support effective resource and service planning.

About You

We're looking for an experienced operational leader who understands the important role that strong practice management plays in delivering effective legal services.

  • You’ll have experience leading operational teams and improving services in a legal, regulatory, governance, compliance or similarly complex environment.
  • You’ll understand legal workflows, case progression and the operational factors that influence performance, customer experience and risk.
  • You’ll be comfortable managing competing priorities, allocating resources effectively and keeping work moving.
  • You’ll have experience using data, reporting and insight to identify trends, solve problems and drive improvement.
  • You’ll be confident building relationships and working with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • You’ll enjoy bringing structure, consistency and clarity to complex services.
  • You’ll be excited by the opportunity to build on what's already working, while introducing practical improvements that make the service more efficient, transparent and customer focused.
