Focus Foundation offer a supported living service to people in their own property, which offers personalised care and support to help individuals live as independently as possible. Whether assistance is needed for a few hours a day or full-time care, our skilled team is dedicated to fostering independence and enhancing well-being. We work closely with everyone we support to develop a customised support plan that aligns with their unique needs and aspirations.

Focus Foundation is looking for a reliable and practical Maintenance Worker to support the upkeep and maintenance of our supported living properties across Whitefield and Prestwich. Our properties are an important part of providing safe, secure and comfortable homes for the people we support.
The successful candidate will carry out a range of general maintenance, repair and property upkeep tasks, helping to ensure our properties are safe, well maintained and presented to a high standard.
The role will involve working across occupied supported living properties, so the successful candidate must be respectful, professional and mindful of the people living in our homes.
This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Maintenance Worker who enjoys varied work and would like the opportunity to develop an ongoing working relationship with a growing organisation.
The role will initially be offered on an ad-hoc basis, with the potential for regular contracted hours in the near future.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out general repairs, maintenance and remedial works across our supported living properties, ensuring tasks are completed safely and within agreed timescales.
- Undertake a range of minor maintenance tasks including basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating, repairs to fixtures and fittings, furniture assembly, and replacement of light fittings where appropriately qualified.
- Prepare properties for new tenants, including completing making-good works and addressing maintenance issues identified through inspections.
- Identify, report and escalation more complex repairs, defects, damp, mould, health and safety concerns, and any property-related issues requiring specialist attention to the Housing Manager.
- Work closely with the Housing Manager and external contractors, providing updates on completed and outstanding works as required.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, materials used and follow-up actions, ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures and property maintenance standards.
- Work respectfully within occupied homes, maintaining the privacy, dignity and independence of the Jewish adults with learning disabilities we support, and reporting any concerns relating to property condition or safety to the appropriate member of the Focus Foundation team.
About You
To be a good fit for this role, you must have the following:
- Previous experience working as a handyman, maintenance worker, property maintenance operative or in a similar practical role
- Full UK Driving Licence and access to a suitable vehicle for travelling between properties.
- Own basic tools and equipment required to undertake general maintenance work
- Good practical knowledge of common household and property maintenance tasks.
- Competent in basic repairs such as plumbing, carpentry, decorating, fixtures and fittings.
- Ability to identify maintenance issues and recognise when specialist assistance is required.
