Location: Emersons Green, Bristol/Hybrid

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides all activities related to the administration of MS SQL Server databases.
  • Projects long-range requirements for database administration and design in conjunction with other managers in the information systems function.
  • Designs, creates, and maintains databases in a client/server environment.
  • Conducts quality control and auditing of databases in a client/server environment to ensure accurate and appropriate use of data.
  • Advises users on access to various client/server databases.
  • Designs, implements, and maintains complex databases with respect to SQL, access methods, access time, device allocation, validation checks, organisation, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods.
  • Applies knowledge and experience with database technologies, development methodologies, and front-end (e.g., COGNOS)/back-end programming languages (e.g., SQL).
  • Performs database programming and supports systems design.
  • Includes maintenance of database dictionaries, overall monitoring of standards and procedures, file design and storage, and integration of systems through database design.

Required Skills:

  • BS Degree and relevant experience or industry knowledge with strong MS SQL Server database administration.
  • Experience of SQL Server backup and recovery techniques.
  • SQL programming experience.
  • Relational database experience.
  • Experience of database high availability including replication.
  • Experience working with AWS technology and familiarity with AWS database technologies including SQL Server in RDS.
  • Excellent English, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in scripting and process automation, preferable PowerShell and Windows shell scripting.

Desired Skills:

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) certification.
  • Experience with other RDBMS database technologies, i.e. Oracle, DB2, AWS Aurora.
  • Experience with data migration, data modelling and data governance.
  • Windows Administration experience.
  • Storage management experience, SAN and AWS technologies (EBS, EFS, S3 etc.).

Clearance Requirements:

  • BPSS Pre-screening required to Start.
  • Clearance required for role: SC.
