We are recruiting for a Canteen Chef to work with an important company in the local area.

Working Hours: 7am - 1pm

Days: Wednesdays and Fridays

Rate: £14.13

Role Purpose: To prepare and serve high-quality, nutritious meals for employees in the site canteen, ensuring food safety, hygiene, and cost control standards are consistently met. The role supports employee wellbeing and engagement by delivering a reliable and friendly catering service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Food Preparation & Service: Prepare and cook fresh meals in line with agreed menus and portion controls. Serve food during designated service times in a professional and friendly manner. Ensure food is presented to a high standard at all times. Provide alternative options where required (e.g. vegetarian choices).
  • Kitchen Operations: Maintain a clean, safe, and organised kitchen environment. Follow all food safety, hygiene, and HACCP procedures. Monitor stock levels and support ordering of ingredients and supplies. Minimise food waste and manage portion control effectively.
  • Compliance & Safety: Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including COSHH and food hygiene standards. Ensure all equipment is used and maintained correctly. Complete required records (temperature checks, cleaning schedules, etc.).
  • Customer Service: Deliver a positive experience for all employees using the canteen. Respond to feedback and adapt menus where appropriate. Maintain a professional and approachable manner at all times.
  • Team Support: Work collaboratively with management and other site functions. Support canteen setup, service planning, and improvements. Assist with special events, themed days, or engagement activities when required.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience: Previous experience as a chef, cook, or in a catering role. Experience in a high-volume or industrial kitchen environment (desirable).
  • Qualifications: Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 minimum). Relevant catering qualification (desirable).
  • Skills & Attributes: Strong organisational and time management skills. Ability to work independently and manage kitchen operations. Good communication and customer service skills. Flexible and reliable approach to working hours. Understanding of food safety and hygiene standards.

Additional Information: This role may require flexibility based on canteen demand and events. PPE and uniform will be provided where required. Duration: Ongoing.
