- Provide specialist legal advice on merchant services matters
- Provide legal input for projects, innovation, product developments and rectifications
- Negotiate customised agreements with customers and suppliers
- Advise on and draft terms and conditions for merchant services and associated-service contracts
- Support legal, regulatory and change projects across Business and Commercial Banking, Corporate and Institutional Banking Legal, and Legal & Secretariat
- Identify, report and escape legal and governance risks and recommend solutions
- Advise on customer and colleague journey enhancements
- Build and maintain partner networks to understand business strategy and pipeline and prioritise team activity
- Manage panel law firms and relationships with external lawyers
- Monitor service delivery and identify opportunities to improve ways of working
- Train the team and business
- Undertake delegated line management responsibilities
Requirements
- Qualified as a solicitor in the UK (or equivalent qualification)
- Minimum 8 years of experience in commercial contracts and/or merchant services, payment services regulations and transaction banking services
- Experience in developing and coaching others
- Strong understanding of the legal and regulatory framework applicable to payments
- Strong commercial contracts experience
- Ability to build strong collaborative relationships across Legal and Secretariat and the business
- Ability to influence, advise and challenge business partners
- Ability to identify, mitigate and control legal risk weaknesses
- Ability to manage workload priorities and support junior colleagues
- Ability to monitor and share regulatory, industry and legal change
- Commitment to self-development and development of colleagues
- Enthusiasm and curiosity
