- Lead or contribute to FPGA architectural definition, detailed design and implementation using VHDL
- Develop requirement-based FPGA designs with traceability from system and hardware requirements through low-level requirements, design artefacts and verification evidence
- Produce and maintain FPGA design documentation, interface definitions, implementation notes and review evidence
- Support DO-254 planning, requirements capture, design, review and verification for complex electronic hardware
- Collaborate with systems, safety, electronics, software, test and certification engineers on product integration
- Support FPGA development workflows including configuration management, branch-based development, pull requests, design reviews and formal release baselines
- Contribute to synthesis, constraints, timing closure, build scripting and implementation tool-flow management
- Support verification engineers with verification strategies, test plans, simulation environments and coverage closure
- Participate in VHDL code reviews and reviews of linting, simulation and implementation evidence
- Improve FPGA processes, toolchains and engineering practices
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to less experienced engineers
- Deliver FPGA-based solutions for safety-critical and high-integrity aerospace systems, including DO-254 products
Requirements
- Degree ideally in Electronic Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or a similar relevant discipline; equivalent industrial experience will also be considered
- Significant experience of FPGA design and development for complex digital systems
- Strong VHDL design capability, including requirements-based RTL design and maintainable, reviewable FPGA code
- Experience developing FPGA systems for high-integrity, safety-critical or mission-critical applications
- Practical understanding of DO-254 processes and required artefacts
- Experience developing FPGA designs from system or hardware requirements, including requirement decomposition, derived requirements and traceability
- Experience with requirements tools such as Siemens Polarion or DOORS
- Experience with FPGA simulation and debugging using QuestaSim or ModelSim
- Experience with FPGA implementation toolchains such as Xilinx Vivado or Intel Quartus
- Experience conducting code and documentation reviews in controlled development processes
- Experience with configuration management and source-control tools such as Git, Azure DevOps or Bitbucket
- Ability to work with electronics hardware, systems, software and verification engineers
- Ability to progress practical design solutions from incomplete or evolving requirements
- Strong written communication and design documentation skills
- Chartered Engineer status or progress toward professional registration advantageous
- Desired: DO-254 DAL A, B or C experience; SystemVerilog; UVM; verification strategies; test plans; coverage; linting; formal verification; automated workflows; Python, Tcl or shell scripting; HIL/SIL/test rigs; mixed hardware/software integration; aerospace interfaces and control systems; mentoring or technical leadership; aerospace, defence or avionics experience
