  • Own delivery for the Panel Systems (Portal) team, including scope, sequencing, and trade-offs
  • Line-manage a small team of engineers building and maintaining Portal applications, APIs, and supporting services
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, provide feedback, and support career development
  • Guide the evolution of Portal architecture to improve scalability, maintainability, and consistency
  • Contribute to feature development and application maintenance
  • Support automation, tooling, and platform improvements
  • Hire and onboard engineers
  • Run fair, well-calibrated performance reviews
  • Establish and maintain engineering practices covering observability, testing, documentation, and incident response
  • Ensure reliable, secure, and performant systems supporting panel engagement and data collection
  • Represent the team’s work to Product and Engineering teams
  • Translate business priorities into technical plans and vice versa
  • Shape a roadmap balancing technical improvements, technical debt, and feature work
  • Uphold security, quality, data privacy, compliance, and health and safety policies

Requirements

  • Experience managing or mentoring software engineers, including hiring, performance, and career development
  • Solid technical background in modern web and backend systems
  • Experience with APIs and cloud platforms such as AWS and Serverless
  • Experience with PHP, Laravel, Angular, and React
  • Experience and confidence using AI tooling for general-purpose and software engineering tasks
  • Experience contributing to or delivering customer-facing or internal product platforms
  • Knowledge of agile software development methodologies and delivery practices
  • Clear, direct communication and ability to work with a range of stakeholders
  • Comfortable engaging with architecture, system design, and engineering trade-offs
  • Experience with automation, including test automation and AI-assisted workflows
  • Familiarity with data privacy and governance, such as GDPR and consented panel data
  • Understanding of information security and compliance frameworks, such as ISO 27001
