- Line-manage and develop a group of engineers through regular one-to-ones, feedback and career conversations
- Own the growth, wellbeing and performance of direct reports
- Build trust and psychological safety within the team
- Lead hiring, onboarding and retention for managed employees
- Own capacity and resource allocation for one or more delivery pods
- Identify and elevate capacity, skills, dependency and resourcing risks
- Support engineers in pods regardless of reporting line and provide feedback to their managers
- Partner with Product Managers on pod scope and sequencing while owning capacity and skills fit
- Support agile ways of working alongside Agile practitioners
- Partner with Tech Leads, Product Managers and fellow managers
- Help pods adopt AI-native delivery and maintain quality review of AI-assisted work
- Help integrate three former teams into one engineering function
Requirements
- Proven experience line-managing and developing engineers
- Experience managing capacity and resource allocation in agile teams
- People-first leadership, including coaching, honest feedback, wellbeing and inclusive team-building
- Comfort working in a matrix environment
- Track record of capacity planning, resource allocation, skills mapping, flow and unblocking in a sustainable delivery environment
- Confidence leading in a fast-moving, AI-native environment
- Strong partnership skills with Tech Leads and Product Managers
- Background in software engineering
- Experience in a regulated or professional-services environment
- Familiarity with modern DevOps and agentic development, such as Azure DevOps and Claude Code
