- Assess and inspect applications affecting the highway, including skips, scaffolding, pavement cafés, vehicle accesses, utility cabinets and specialist highway signage
- Investigate proposals and inspect completed works across Suffolk
- Ensure highway activities meet required safety, design and legislative standards
- Work with residents, businesses, developers, utility providers, district and borough councils
- Provide expert advice and find practical solutions balancing customer needs with safe and efficient highway operation
- Assess vehicle accesses, inspect pavement licences and review signage proposals
- Help resolve licensing infringements
- Support enforcement activities
- Educate customers, resolve issues and ensure compliance with highway legislation
- Make independent decisions and contribute to safe, accessible and well-managed roads and public spaces
Requirements
- A high level of autonomy during the normal day to day working around the county and carrying out various site visits and inspections
- Good knowledge and experience in the application of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016
- Good knowledge and experience in the application of relevant legislation, including the Highway Act, particularly in a licensing or enforcement capacity
- Experience and ability to provide comprehensive advice to a range of customer enquiries and advise on works
- Knowledge, experience and ability to work safely on live carriageways
- Supporting statement and CV required for application
- Ability to meet safeguarding requirements; DBS checks or police vetting may be required for relevant posts
