- Support the Port Director and local management team to deliver divisional targets and objectives
- Provide practical HR advice to managers to help them lead teams effectively and make fair, consistent decisions
- Coach, educate and support managers on HR policies, procedures and employment legislation
- Support employee relations activity, including investigations, disciplinaries, grievances and capability matters
- Guide managers through employee relations processes in a timely and professional way
- Work with the HR Business Partner to support change, business improvement and wider People Plan activity
- Initiate and facilitate local people initiatives that improve ways of working and support business priorities
- Proactively manage short- and long-term sickness absence and ill-health capability cases
- Make Occupational Health referrals where needed
- Help managers follow up on GP or Occupational Health recommendations
- Work across King George V Dock and Greenock operational sites
Requirements
- Experience providing HR advice and support to new and experienced managers
- Strong grounding in HR practice
- Confidence interpreting policies, procedures and employment legislation fairly, practically and consistently
- Clear and confident communication skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with colleagues at all levels
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving operational environment
- Organised, curious and comfortable working with data
- Ability to use HR systems to access, input and analyse information and produce clear reports and practical recommendations
- Ability to work independently while staying connected with remote HR colleagues and the wider People team
- Full UK driving licence
- Access to own car
- CIPD qualified or working towards this is ideal
- Previous experience working closely with Trade Unions is advantageous but not essential
