Responsibilities
- Leading and growing a team of 30+ economists onshore and offshore.
- Business development - building and developing a network of contacts across the public and private sector.
- External communications - lead high-profile presentations to clients and other stakeholders.
- Lead cost-benefit analyses, economic appraisals, and risk-adjusted option modelling for defence and security programmes.
- Lead analytical and quantitative modelling, including economic forecasting and statistical assessments.
- Serve as a senior advisor to clients, translating complex economic concepts into digestible and compelling narratives.
- Provide leadership and oversight across project workstreams, ensuring quality assurance.
- Develop client accounts and support business development.
- Coach junior economists to build future leadership capability.
Qualifications
- 10+ years' experience working as an economist (in a consultancy or government department) with a focus on economic policy in government, infrastructure and/or defence.
- Experience in Green Book 5 Case model is essential; other relevant experience as Magenta Book desirable.
- Proven senior leadership experience in building and leading an economic team.
- Proven experience in delivering complex public sector or defence programmes.
- Strong collaboration and influencing skills, with experience of working within a matrix organisation.
- Experience leading the development of business cases in line with HMT Green Book principles.
- An Economics Degree (or an international equivalent) or equivalent work experience.
- Strong analytical skills for quantitative problem-solving, with high attention to detail.
- Critical thinking skills to evaluate information, make informed decisions, and develop innovative solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Commercial/sales experience (desirable).
