  • Understand the brief, client, audience, content and purpose before designing
  • Bring references, observations and inspiration into the creative process
  • Contribute to creative exploration by developing and sharing ideas, sketches and visual approaches
  • Explore different solutions and maintain the core idea as projects develop
  • Turn content, data and information into clear, navigable communications
  • Use typography, hierarchy, layout, imagery and information design to tell stories
  • Create charts, diagrams and visualisations that clarify information
  • Produce thoughtful, well-crafted design across print and digital projects
  • Work within established brand and design systems while identifying opportunities to develop them
  • Prepare accurate, organised files and collaborate with publishing and production colleagues through delivery
  • Respond to creative direction and feedback
  • Develop capability with motion, digital, AI and emerging technologies
  • Share thinking in creative reviews and explain design choices
  • Take increasing ownership of defined pieces of work
  • Collaborate with creative, account, publishing, production, strategy, content, digital and other creative specialists

Requirements

  • Around two to three years' professional experience
  • Portfolio demonstrating strong foundations, good ideas and an eye for detail
  • Strong graphic design and typographic foundations
  • Good visual thinking and an interest in ideas
  • Confidence using Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Understanding of hierarchy, layout, imagery and composition
  • Interest in information design and data visualisation
  • Experience preparing accurate design work for print and digital use
  • Good attention to detail
  • Ability to organise workload and meet deadlines
  • Confidence communicating and collaborating with colleagues
  • Openness to creative direction, challenge and feedback
  • Curiosity about new tools, technologies and creative disciplines
  • Willingness to learn, experiment and keep improving
  • Experience in corporate communications, reporting or sustainability is useful but not essential
