Responsibilities
- Deliver 16 hours of teaching across four groups for Foundation Year courses
- Deliver engaging lectures face-to-face and online for blended and distance-learning students
- Act as a Personal Academic Coach supporting student engagement, progression, and academic success
- Provide academic support through office hours, tutorials, one-to-ones, and group tutorials
- Facilitate the campus cover rota
- Lead modules and ensure the quality and development of learning materials and schemes of work
- Oversee assessment marking, create authentic assessments, and provide high-quality feedback
- Lead or support new programme creation and refresh existing programmes to align with industry and employer requirements
- Collaborate with colleagues to provide academic advice and student support
- Drive innovation in teaching, student support, and assessment
- Assist with online and campus-based student orientation weeks
- Track students at risk of non-submission and support them through calls, online tutorials, and face-to-face assessment tutorials
- Develop assessment and resit clinics
- Create interactive videos, podcasts, and activities for the VLE and classroom
- Support students with assessment reminders and scaffolded feedback sessions
Requirements
- Master's degree or equivalent professional qualification in a subject relevant to the teaching area
- Recognised HE Teaching Qualification and/or Advance HE Fellowship at FHEA/SFHEA level, or commitment to gain this recognition within 12 months of appointment
- Evidence of CPD demonstrating commitment to enhancing knowledge and teaching capability
- Experience teaching Foundation Year or academic skills
- Understanding of challenges to student engagement in a university setting
- Academic background in academic skills, assessment support, business, accounting and finance, business management, project management, health and care management, or hospitality/tourism
- Positive and empathetic approach to dealing with student issues
- Interest in AI in education, enterprise, or innovation advantageous
- Ability to work on campus 3-4 days per week, with possible 5-day campus attendance based on teaching and meeting requirements
- Applicants must meet UK right-to-work requirements or be eligible for an alternative visa route
