  • Advise landowners, developers and local planning authorities on all aspects of planning law

  • Handle complex planning applications and environmental assessment processes

  • Draft and negotiate Section 106 agreements, highways agreements, stopping up orders and infrastructure agreements

  • Advise on community infrastructure levy

  • Develop, review, assess and draft local plans, neighbourhood plans, local development orders and planning policy

  • Advise on garden cities, urban extensions, affordable housing and viability

  • Advise on major infrastructure, transport, urban development and regeneration projects

  • Conduct public inquiry work, including instructing Counsel and coordinating teams

  • Handle judicial review and High Court litigation, including instructing Counsel and coordinating teams

  • Advise on listed building consents, assets of community value and conservation areas

  • Handle compulsory purchase matters

  • Conduct planning due diligence on commercial and corporate transactions across schemes including student housing, hotels, retail, residential and energy projects

  • Work independently within a collegiate environment and mentor others

  • Develop the practice through networking, marketing, thought leadership and client relationship building

  • Take extensive responsibility and help develop the business and team profile


Requirements



  • PQE: NQ up to 2PQE

  • Strong academic background

  • England and Wales qualified

  • Effective delegation skills with strong team collaboration

  • Experience contributing to developing and maintaining client relationships, marketing, networking and thought leadership

  • Demonstrable experience in several areas including drafting and negotiating planning agreements; CIL charging schedules and payment triggers; planning litigation; housing or power projects; compulsory purchase orders; and planning due diligence on commercial and corporate transactions, including planning warranties and indemnities

  • Broad planning experience with some real estate experience desirable

  • Detailed grasp of complex legal concepts and excellent drafting skills using plain English desirable

  • Strong communication, client service, organizational, influencing, time and people management skills

  • Ability to work independently, manage workload, meet deadlines and handle conflicting demands

  • Commercial perspective and ability to communicate complex legal advice effectively

  • Proactive, entrepreneurial and commercially minded approach

  • Keen interest in clients' businesses

  • Ability to build and foster client relationships

  • High personal integrity and understanding of professional ethics, reputational risk and regulatory framework
