We are seeking a hands-on Electrical Engineer to join a busy fabrication and manufacturing facility. The role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving automated production equipment used in aluminium fabrication and metal processing.
The successful candidate will work directly on the shop floor, supporting production operations, reducing downtime, and improving reliability across CNC machines, presses, saws, and automated fabrication systems. This is a practical, shop-floor-based role suited to an engineer with strong fault-finding ability and experience in industrial automation and manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and troubleshoot electrical systems across fabrication equipment including CNC machines, presses, saws, rolling/blanking lines, and automated systems
- Carry out hands-on fault finding and repairs to minimise equipment downtime
- Diagnose faults in PLC systems, HMI panels, drives, motors, sensors, and encoders
- Program, modify, and troubleshoot Siemens PLC systems
- Configure and maintain HMI interfaces for production use
- Support installation, commissioning, and upgrades of machinery and automation systems
- Work with robotics integrated into automated production lines
- Support preventative maintenance and continuous improvement activities
- Read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings
- Ensure compliance with BS 7671 wiring regulations and machinery safety standards (CE/UKCA)
- Conduct risk assessments on automated systems
- Proven experience in a hands-on electrical engineering role within manufacturing or fabrication
- Strong fault-finding experience in industrial electrical systems
- Experience with Siemens PLC programming, diagnostics, and modification
- Knowledge of HMIs, VFDs, servo drives, motors, and sensors
- Ability to read electrical drawings and schematics
- Experience working in a production or shop-floor environment
- Understanding of industrial automation systems
- Experience in aluminium fabrication or metal processing
- Robotics experience including programming, fault finding, or integration
- CNC machinery experience
- Experience with installation, commissioning, or equipment upgrades
- Knowledge of industrial communication systems such as Ethernet/IP
- HNC, HND, NVQ Level 3, or Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- 18th Edition (BS 7671) preferred or willingness to work towards it
- Understanding of three-phase systems, motors, and industrial controls
- Strong hands-on problem-solving ability
- Able to work under pressure in a production environment
- High attention to safety and detail
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Proactive and reliable approach to engineering tasks
- Salary up to £50,000 depending on experience
