Air & Sea Freight Specialist / Operations Manager

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Air & Sea Freight Specialist / Operations Manager to join our growing logistics business and take ownership of developing our air and sea freight division.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who has strong operational freight forwarding experience and wants to play a key role in building a department from the ground up. You will be responsible for creating processes, managing shipments, developing supplier relationships and ensuring customers receive a first-class international freight service.

The successful candidate will be hands‑on, commercially aware and confident managing the complete operational lifecycle of air and sea freight movements, from booking and documentation through to customs, delivery and customer updates.

JJX Logistics provides time-critical and international logistics solutions, including air freight, sea freight, road transport and integrated supply chain services.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and establish the air and sea freight department from inception.
• Manage day-to-day operational activity for international shipments.
• Handle import and export shipments across air and sea freight networks.
• Coordinate with airlines, shipping lines, freight partners, agents and customs providers.
• Manage FCL, LCL, air freight and multimodal transport solutions.
• Prepare and check shipping documentation including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading and airway bills.
• Ensure shipments comply with customs requirements and international regulations.
• Liaise with customers to provide updates, resolve issues and maintain excellent service levels.
• Source competitive freight solutions while maintaining operational quality.
• Develop relationships with overseas agents and freight partners.
• Create and improve operational processes, procedures and reporting systems.
• Monitor shipment performance, costs and service delivery.
• Support business growth by identifying opportunities to expand air and sea freight services.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

• Proven experience within an air freight and sea freight operational role.
• Strong understanding of international freight forwarding processes.
• Experience managing imports and exports.
• Knowledge of customs procedures and freight documentation.
• Experience working with freight forwarders, carriers, airlines and shipping lines.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of a new division.
• Strong communication skills with customers, suppliers and internal teams.
• A proactive approach with the ability to solve problems quickly.

Desirable Experience

• Experience setting up or developing a freight forwarding operation.
• Knowledge of Incoterms.
• Experience with customs systems.
• Existing relationships with freight partners and overseas agents.
• Experience within time-critical, automotive, aerospace or specialist logistics sectors.
