Full time hours on a temporary basis

As Finance Manager – Environment, you will play a key role in providing financial oversight and commercial expertise to support the Environment service. You will collaborate closely with service and budget managers, ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and effective resource allocation. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical financial advice, briefing papers, and training tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Offering financial and commercial insights on high-profile projects, programmes, and capital projects.
  • Supporting the closure of accounts, ensuring accurate income and expenditure reporting, reconciling balance sheet items, and completing reserve drawdowns and accruals.
  • Assisting service and budget managers in budget building and monthly financial monitoring.
  • Analysing, preparing, and reviewing key commercial documents, including project agreements, payment mechanisms, and procurement tenders.
  • Providing financial analysis of data.
  • Financial monitoring of capital projects.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A full CCAB/CIMA (or overseas equivalent) qualification with relevant financial management experience.
  • Experience as a finance business partner.
  • Ideally managed a significant organizational function or service in a large multi-disciplined organization with comparable scope, budgets, and resources.
  • A strong understanding of the financial challenges facing local authorities.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in financial modelling and data analysis.
  • Experience in strategic financial planning and budget setting techniques.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and business partnering skills, with a commitment to equality and diversity.
