The Solar Site Engineer will support the delivery of utility-scale solar PV projects by providing on-site technical, engineering, and coordination support. The role ensures that construction works are carried out in accordance with approved designs, technical specifications, quality standards, and UK health & safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Site Engineering & Technical Support
- Provide on-site engineering support during solar PV construction
- Review and interpret IFC drawings, specifications, and method statements
- Assist with setting out works for civil, mechanical, and electrical activities
- Resolve technical issues and coordinate design clarifications with the engineering team
- Support temporary works and construction sequencing
- Quality Assurance & Control
- Monitor installation quality of piling, mounting systems, modules, inverters, cabling, and substations
- Ensure works comply with approved designs, standards, and manufacturer requirements
- Assist in inspections, snagging, and defect resolution
- Maintain QA/QC records, inspection checklists, and test reports
- Construction Coordination
- Support Site Manager in coordinating subcontractors and daily site activities
- Monitor progress against programme and report deviations
- Assist with material inspections, delivery checks, and storage control
- Interface between civil, mechanical, and electrical contractors
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure works are carried out in line with CDM 2015 and site HSE procedures
- Assist with RAMS reviews and implementation
- Support site inductions, toolbox talks, and safety inspections
- Report incidents, near misses, and non-conformances
- Testing, Commissioning & Handover
- Support testing and commissioning activities
- Assist with performance testing and punch-list close-out
- Support preparation of as-built drawings and handover documentation
Key Requirements
- Experience
- 2–5 years' experience in site engineering or construction engineering
- Experience on solar PV, renewable energy, or electrical infrastructure projects
- Qualifications
- Site-based experience within the UK construction environment preferred
- Degree or HND in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or related)
- CSCS Card (mandatory)
- SMSTS or SSSTS (desirable)
- First Aid at Work (desirable)
- Technical Skills
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Basic understanding of solar PV systems and construction sequencing
- Familiarity with QA/QC procedures and site documentation
- Proficient in MS Office and basic reporting tools
