Based in Wappenham, Northamptonshire, ECS is known for advanced RF data links, counter-drone solutions, and secure communications systems used in demanding, mission-critical environments.

We are looking for an RF Design Engineer to work within a skilled team, adding RF design expertise to the existing embedded, mechanical and firmware disciplines. You will be involved in Sustaining Engineering across ECS's specialist products and New Product Introduction (NPI). This role suits someone with some RF design experience or general electronic design experience, who is eager to grow and develop skills within the RF domain. You will be provided with time, support and training but will be expected to take ownership of assigned work and be self-motivated to improve their skills. Previous commercial RF or related experience is a bonus.

The position focuses on general RF circuit design with the chance to explore advanced technology such as up/down converters, Low Noise Amplifiers, Power Amplifiers, filter designs, etc., all of which include linear and/or non-linear simulation as part of the design process using Microwave Office (AWR) and/or Ansys (HFSS). This is a full-time, permanent role offered on a hybrid basis, with a minimum of three days a week in the office.

Key Responsibilities
  • RF Circuit Design: Contribute to system architecture, RF simulation, schematic capture and PCB layout. Work primarily on general RF circuits with opportunities to design and support up/down converters, Low Noise Amplifiers, filters, High-power amplifiers, etc.
  • Product Development: Support the full product lifecycle from requirements gathering through to testing and validation.
  • Technical Support & Troubleshooting: Help resolve RF-related issues and collaborate across engineering teams to ensure high-quality product performance.
  • Independent Work: Manage your own tasks and testing with support available from senior engineers.
  • Collaboration: Share ideas, contribute to improvements, and learn from a close-knit team.
What We’re Looking For
  • Some experience in RF design or a related engineering role within a commercial environment.
  • Familiarity with PCB design tools and RF simulation software would be preferred.
  • Nice-to-have skills include knowledge and experience of test equipment such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Ability to work within a team or independently and take responsibility for assigned tasks.
  • Degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • British citizenship or eligibility for Security Clearance (SC) is required.
Why Join ECS
  • Innovation with Purpose: Work on technology that supports national security and complex global missions.
  • Career Development: Access to cutting-edge tools, mentorship, and opportunities to expand your RF expertise.
