Sandberg is currently seeking a capable Technician to undertake materials testing in our busy Construction Materials Department in Clapham, London. This role involves the testing of a range of construction materials in accordance with relevant standards. It is an excellent opportunity to develop your knowledge about the properties of different construction materials and how they are used. It is a hands-on role using equipment such as saws and grinders with a significant amount of on-site work. You will be supported to train up on the various techniques and testing that you will need to succeed in the role.

Responsibilities

  • Testing construction materials including concretes, aggregates, mortars, bricks and flooring materials in accordance with applicable standards (BS, EN, ASTM)
  • Maintain and calibrate testing equipment
  • Testing both on site and within the labs
  • Assist Engineers and Senior Technicians as needed
  • Follow company and site-specific safety requirements

This is a permanent, full-time position, normally working Monday to Friday 8am-4pm. There is potential for night and weekend work, paid at overtime rates, as required by the project.

Required Skills

  • Practical and hands on
  • Comfortable carrying bulky equipment around site and accessing areas with restricted space or via ladders
  • Proven maths ability – you’ll need it for the testing and reporting
  • Good command of English, both written and spoken
  • Good communicator and able to converse with new people

Preferred Skills

  • Minimum of HNC or equivalent in a technical/construction-related subject
  • Experience of working with construction materials
  • Driving licence recognised in the UK

The salary will be in line with the London Living Wage, though consideration may be made for relevant experience. A twice-yearly bonus may be paid (dependent on the firm’s performance) and you will be eligible to join the Sandberg pension scheme.
