This role can be either for an EU national with an EU passport willing to be based in London with travel to Europe or be full-time based in London. The Project Engineer (PE) works closely with designated customers to ensure the smooth delivery of projects. Depending on workload, the role may also include responsibilities as a Senior Installation Engineer. This position involves extensive travel across Europe, including periods spent away from home. As part of a dedicated team, the PE will support the installation of Security Systems.
The role primarily includes supervising the workforce, acting as the senior installation engineer, and ensuring that all work is carried out in full compliance with project designs and specifications. At times, the PE may also manage and install smaller orders received through the Service or Installation Departments, particularly when already based in-country or on-site. This position requires strong initiative, independence, and regular interaction with clients. Flexibility is essential, as the role must adapt to changes in workload and the company’s evolving needs. The PE will also be responsible for supervising, mentoring, and guiding engineers, subcontractors, or junior team members.
Key Responsibilities- Following project allocation, the PE and Project Manager (PM) will jointly plan, schedule, install, and hand over each project.
- Review new job files to fully understand contract conditions and project documentation. Ensure specified equipment is suitable and functional, liaising with Sales and the customer where necessary.
- Monitor and action the agreed programme of works and delivery schedules, proactively communicating any changes to the PM, OD/OM, and Sales.
- Jointly monitor project profitability with the PM, raising concerns promptly.
- Track team progress and maintain regular communication with the PM through ongoing project reviews.
- Keep customers and all relevant stakeholders updated on project progress.
- Escalate any risks to timelines—especially where liquidated damages may apply—to the PM and/or OM/OD immediately.
- Organise or deliver customer training as required and ensure all commissioning and completion certificates are properly signed and submitted.
- Provide all necessary handover documentation in the correct format.
- Notify the Service Manager in advance of upcoming project completions to arrange suitable handover or attendance.
- Work with the Service Manager to coordinate remedial works or new installations generated by the Service Department.
- Ensure timely and accurate information is provided for efficient customer invoicing.
- Stock Management: Maintain appropriate stock levels, order required parts, store and label items correctly, and return faulty parts to the office weekly.
- Expenses: Submit daily-completed expense sheets to the Projects Administrator by the 20th of each month, supported by valid VAT receipts.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Keep any company vehicle clean and maintained in line with Vehicle Operating Rules.
- Mobile Phone: Maintain the company phone in full working order, ensuring timely repairs, proper functionality, and adequate charge.
- Tools: Maintain personal and company tools to a high standard, ensuring efficient installation work and compliance with Health & Safety requirements.
- Present yourself professionally at all times and carry company identification.
- Perform any reasonable tasks requested by management.
