About MOMO Kombucha
We are on a mission to produce the UK's bestātasting and highest quality kombucha. We brew the traditional way and leave our kombucha unfiltered for a fuller depth of flavour. We're certified organic, a proud B Corp and featured on The Sunday Times Best Places to Work list in 2024 and 2025. You'll find MOMO in Ocado, Riverford, GAIL's, Planet Organic, Whole Foods Market, and over 1,200 independents.
Founded in 2018, we've grown rapidly and are now preparing to scale over the next five years, to become the UK's favourite kombucha. The kombucha category is set to explode and is poised for many decades of structural growth driven by three mega trends: gut health, low sugar and alcohol alternatives.
The opportunity
We're looking for a detailādriven engineer to join our engineering team (currently two engineers) to take responsibility for the maintenance, reliability and engineering performance of our bottling line in close collaboration with our Packaging Lead. As Packaging Engineer you will act as the technical owner of bottling equipment, ensuring the line is wellāmaintained, reliable and engineered to deliver consistent quality and scalable throughput.
Initially, you will prioritise establishing strong bottling line maintenance and reliability. Once embedded, your focus will increasingly shift towards performance optimisation, line upgrades and engineering projects to support scaleāup and future site relocation.
As Packaging Engineer at MOMO, you will play a pivotal role in scaling our packaging from 45,000 bottles per week to 250,000+ over the coming years, delivering on line upgrades and engineering projects to support this growth.
What You'll Do
- Bottling line maintenance & reliability
Own the maintenance and reliability of bottling lines, including fillers, cappers, labellers, conveyors, packers and cleaning systems. Plan, execute and continuously improve preventive and predictive maintenance for bottling equipment. Diagnose and resolve bottling line faults. Lead rootācause analysis for recurring breakdowns and implement permanent engineering fixes. Maintain accurate maintenance records, spare parts requirements and technical documentation for bottling equipment.
- Bottling line performance engineering
Analyse bottling line performance using OEE, downtime and failure data to identify equipment constraints. Engineer solutions to improve throughput, reliability and line balance rather than shortāterm operational workarounds. Define and maintain technical standards for bottling line setāup, control parameters and performance limits. Support speed increases, changeovers and process improvements from an engineering perspective.
- Process Design & Continuous Improvement
Lead continuous improvement initiatives across bottling operations, reducing unplanned downtime, waste and variability. Design and validate engineering modifications to improve equipment robustness, maintainability and safety. Complete structured trials to validate process changes and equipment modifications. Document engineering changes and ensure they are controlled and repeatable.
- Capital Projects & Line Development
Support bottlingārelated capital projects, including equipment upgrades, refurbishments and capacity expansion. Support equipment specification, supplier engagement, installation and commissioning activities. Provide engineering input into bottling line layout, utilities and integration for future site relocation and scaleāup.
- Quality, Safety & Compliance
Ensure bottling equipment is maintained and operated in compliance with food safety, quality and health & safety requirements. Support risk assessments, validations and engineering change control processes. Work with the Quality Lead to investigate bottlingārelated quality incidents and implement engineering corrective actions.
- CrossāFunctional Collaboration
Work closely with Production to align maintenance activities with production plans and minimise disruption. Collaborate with Production and Compliance teams to ensure bottling systems are reliable, scalable and auditāready. Act as the primary technical interface with equipment manufacturers and external contractors for bottling equipment. Communicate clearly with management on bottling line condition, risks and investment needs.
What You'll Bring
- 3+ years experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing or Process Engineering.
- Proven experience maintaining and engineering bottling lines in a drinks manufacturing environment.
- Strong handsāon capability across mechanical systems, with working knowledge of electrical and control systems.
- Experience implementing preventive maintenance strategies and reliability improvements.
- Ability to diagnose complex bottling line failures and engineer permanent solutions.
- Experience delivering engineeringāled continuous improvement and capital projects.
- Solid understanding of food safety, quality systems and health & safety requirements. Ideally with experience of SALSA, BRCGS or equivalent.
- Comfortable working in a scaling, handsāon environment where engineering ownership is critical to performance.
What You'll Get
- Competitive salary based on experience
- Quarterly bonus scheme + share options
- Early finish Fridays
- £250 annual wellness budget
- 1 volunteer day per year (paid)
- 26 days' holiday, plus 1 extra day every two years (up to 30 days)
- Work with a B Corp that donates 1% of revenue to charity and is committed to improving its impact every year
