This is a hands-on, factory-focused Site Engineering Manager role for a complex food manufacturing site undergoing significant CAPEX investment and cultural reset. Food manufacturing experience is essential. Bakery experience is highly desirable.
The Site Engineering Manager leads the site engineering and maintenance function, with full accountability for factory performance, reliability, and uptime. The role balances day-to-day operational delivery with longer-term improvement, capability building, and major CAPEX implementation.
As Site Engineering Manager, you will:
- Drive efficiency improvements.
- Oversee reliability and preventative maintenance.
- Uphold high engineering standards and discipline.
- Be the most senior engineering voice on site, providing clear communication to the Site General Manager.
- Direct line management of: Maintenance Manager, Engineering Managers, Reliability Engineers, Engineering shift teams (4 on / 4 off).
- Provide senior engineering leadership for major CAPEX projects including a Β£45m+ site upgrade programme.
- Support ongoing recovery and stability following historic industrial relations challenges.
- Maintain regular senior-level engagement outside of standard weekday operations to ensure continuity and site stability.
The successful candidate will be an experienced Site Engineering Manager with strong food manufacturing credentials and the gravitas to operate effectively at Site Leadership Team level.
The successful Site Engineering Manager will have:
- Proven experience as an Engineering Manager within food manufacturing; bakery or fresh food environments are strongly preferred.
- Strong background in production engineering rather than facilities or estates.
- Demonstrated experience delivering engineering performance in high-CAPEX, live factory settings.
- Credibility at shop-floor level, with a clear trade or technical foundation.
- Confidence in customer-facing and cross-functional conversations where engineering constraints impact supply or service.
- Calm, pragmatic leadership style with the ability to rebuild trust and break down functional silos.
- Strong stakeholder management skills across Operations, Technical, Commercial, and external partners.
- Comfortable operating in a unionised environment.
